# Which AI Tool Helps Separate Group Net Debt from Non-Financial Net Cash?

Astra’s FY2025 filing reconciles group net debt with non-financial net cash. A worked example tests scope, signs and the equity denominator before choosing a research tool.

## Direct answer

Trade Inc’s connected financial-data tools can help you start a debt review, but the buying test is whether you can preserve the scope of each number and reconcile it to the filing. Astra’s FY2025 accounts illustrate why: the group reported **Rp57.680 trillion of net debt**, while its non-financial-services companies reported **Rp7.218 trillion of net cash**. Those statements are compatible, not contradictory.

This guide demonstrates retrieved financial figures followed by a separate manual filing check. It does not demonstrate automatic business-segment debt extraction or a credit-rating feature. Published by Trade Inc Research, affiliated with Trade Inc; checked on 15 October 2026. The balances are historical, as at 31 December 2025.

## Key takeaways

- Keep consolidated, financial-services and non-financial-services scopes separate.
- Total liabilities are not a substitute for the filing’s borrowings.
- A group gearing ratio needs the matching group equity denominator.
- Net cash is not proof that funds are immediately available to a parent or another subsidiary.

## Start with the reporting period, not a debt label

The [public Trade Inc MCP guide](https://tradeinc.app/en/blog/idx-research-existing-ai-tool-mcp) documents annual and quarterly financial retrieval through a compatible connected AI application. Access depends on the account; this is not a claim about every subscription or an identical website button.

Our read-only request retrieved ASII’s two annual periods and one quarter. For FY2025, the named figures included cash of Rp52.621 trillion, total equity of Rp290.812 trillion and total liabilities of Rp216.554 trillion. The response identified the year-end date and a retrieval timestamp of 8 October 2026. Neither a retrieval timestamp nor today’s article date makes those December balances current.

We then opened the issuer’s [FY2025 consolidated financial statements](https://r2.astra.co.id/financial-reports/Astra%20Account%20December%202025.pdf#page=136). Note 34, printed page 124 / PDF page 136, supplies the borrowings definition and business-scope reconciliation. Reading that note was a separate step—not a hidden capability attributed to the initial data request.

## Reproduce the consolidated calculation

The filing defines consolidated gearing as net debt divided by total equity, with net debt calculated from borrowings less cash and cash equivalents. Amounts below are **Rp billion**, as at **31 December 2025**.

| Filing measure | Rp billion |
| --- | ---: |
| Total borrowings | 110,301 |
| Cash and cash equivalents | 52,621 |
| Net debt | 57,680 |
| Total equity | 290,812 |

Our arithmetic is 110,301 − 52,621 = **57,680**. Dividing 57,680 by 290,812 gives approximately **19.83%**, consistent with the filing’s rounded **20%** gearing ratio.

Do not replace borrowings with the Rp216,554 billion total-liabilities figure. The balance sheet also contains trade payables, taxes, accruals and other obligations. Subtracting cash from all liabilities would produce Rp163,933 billion—a different calculation, not the reported net debt.

Similarly, the retrieved parent-attributable equity of Rp228,906 billion is not the denominator used in this consolidated gearing table. A familiar field name does not make two scopes interchangeable.

## Why the non-financial businesses can still have net cash

The same note separates financial-services companies from non-financial-services companies. It explains that financial-services businesses operate with higher leverage.

| Scope in the filing | Net debt / (net cash), Rp billion |
| --- | ---: |
| Financial-services companies | 64,898 |
| Non-financial-services companies | (7,218) |
| Consolidated group | 57,680 |

Use a consistent sign convention: debt is positive and net cash is negative. The reconciliation is **64,898 − 7,218 = 57,680**.

Adding 7,218 as positive debt would give 72,116 and reverse the meaning of that row. Conversely, describing the entire group as having net cash would omit the financial-services balance. The useful result is the reconciliation, not a choice of whichever headline sounds safer.

This is an issuer-defined split of consolidated net debt. It is not a schedule of cash available for transfer, a list of legal borrowers or evidence that one business guarantees another’s obligations.

## An acceptance test before choosing a research tool

Ask for a dated table that keeps the original labels and units, then request three checks:

1. Reconcile borrowings less cash to the filing’s net debt.
2. Show how financial and non-financial scopes combine, preserving negative signs.
3. Identify the exact equity denominator and explain why total liabilities or parent equity would answer a different question.

A credible answer should mark which figures came from retrieval, which came from the original note and which are calculations. If the filing cannot be opened, it should leave the business split unresolved rather than invent it. Ask for a page reference, not only a source homepage.

This test uses ordinary arithmetic and source inspection. We created no Screener or backtest and did not verify an automatic debt-scope classifier.

## Who benefits from this workflow?

It fits researchers reviewing diversified groups whose financing businesses can materially affect consolidated leverage. Connected retrieval helps organize dated figures; the filing remains necessary to establish the issuer’s definitions.

For one company and one year, the PDF and a calculator may be sufficient. You may not need another AI subscription. If you need covenant compliance, refinancing availability or a credit decision, this demonstration is insufficient: you need contractual definitions, maturities, legal-entity details and other evidence.

We did not compare competing products or test predictive accuracy. The example does not establish that Astra is cheap, safe or able to repay every obligation.

## Keep scope attached to the conclusion

The defensible conclusion is narrow: the FY2025 filing reconciles group net debt with non-financial net cash because the financial-services balance is larger. A newer filing, changed group composition or different debt definition requires a fresh calculation.
