# Which AI Tool Can Stress-Test Debt Refinancing and Interest Coverage?

An actual Pro Chat walkthrough tests three refinancing rates and two EBIT levels, then solves the rate compatible with a stated coverage hurdle. All six results are independently checked.

## Direct answer

Trade Inc Chat can build an explicit refinancing sensitivity that separates the debt repricing from a fall in operating profit. Our actual Pro Chat test produced six interest-coverage cases and solved the refinancing rate compatible with a chosen coverage threshold. Every result reproduced independently.

The useful distinction is between **a calculation under stated assumptions** and a credit judgment. In this example, the weakest case gives 0.94 times coverage. It does not establish that any actual issuer will default, breach a covenant or obtain refinancing.

*Trade Inc Research publishes this guide about its own product. Demonstration checked on 12 October 2026. All company figures are hypothetical, not an issuer forecast or investment recommendation.*

## Key takeaways

- Reprice only the debt assumed to refinance; leave the fixed-rate tranche unchanged.
- Test weaker earnings as well as higher interest rates.
- Name the coverage definition and use matching annual periods.
- An analytical threshold is not a contractual covenant or proof of liquidity.

## Start with two debt tranches, not one blended rate

An investor researching an IDX company may ask how much refinancing headroom remains. A useful first model keeps the debt that changes separate from the debt that does not.

Our inputs, all in Rp billion, were annual earnings before interest and tax—**EBIT**—of 120, debt A of 400 fixed at 6%, and debt B of 600 refinanced on the first day of the year at 8%, 10% or 12%. Principal stays unchanged. There are no fees or other interest charges. We also test EBIT of 90, a 25% reduction.

The definition used here is EBIT divided by interest expense for the same period, consistent with [Fidelity's interest-coverage glossary](https://www.fidelity.com/quick-content/etf/help/research/learn_er_glossary_2.shtml). Other definitions exist; do not silently substitute EBITDA, cash flow or net interest.

## Step 1: send the bounded scenario in Chat

We opened **Percakapan**, entered the assumptions, retained **Cepat** response mode and submitted using Return. The message box also provides the **Kirim** up-arrow control. We requested a compact table, formulas and the maximum debt B rate for an assumed 2.0-times coverage threshold.

No market lookup, Screener, backtest or monitoring was launched. This is the actual Chat custom-analysis workflow, not a dedicated debt-rating module. The [public Trade Inc product page](https://tradeinc.app/en) lists AI research and custom analysis within Pro; we verified this session, not every plan or account configuration.

## Step 2: inspect the six outcomes

Debt A contributes 400 × 6% = **24** in annual interest throughout. Debt B contributes 48, 60 or 72. Total annual interest is consequently 72, 84 or 96.

![Actual Trade Inc Chat table showing six refinancing and EBIT scenarios, followed by the coverage-threshold calculation](https://cdn.sanity.io/images/eybaj6wm/production/94efdb936cddfc0ca04662e1ae6967db0abe6f56-1008x567.jpg)

*The fixed tranche does not reprice. The table combines three refinancing rates with two earnings levels.*

| Debt B rate | Total annual interest, Rp bn | Coverage at EBIT 120 | Coverage at EBIT 90 |
| --- | ---: | ---: | ---: |
| 8% | 72 | 1.67× | 1.25× |
| 10% | 84 | 1.43× | 1.07× |
| 12% | 96 | 1.25× | 0.94× |

At 12% and EBIT 90, operating earnings in this definition are 6 below annual interest. That is a warning within the scenario, not a prediction of missed payments: existing cash, other funding and actual payment dates have not been modeled.

Repricing the entire 1,000 of debt to 10% would incorrectly produce 100 of interest. Under the stated split, the correct total is 84. Keeping the two tranches visible prevents that mistake.

## Step 3: solve the rate limit rather than guessing one

For coverage of exactly 2.0×, total interest must equal EBIT ÷ 2. Subtract fixed-tranche interest, then divide by debt B principal:

**Debt B rate = (EBIT ÷ 2 − 24) ÷ 600.**

At EBIT 120, the result is **6.0%**. At EBIT 90, it is **3.5%**. Thus none of the tested 8%–12% rates reaches the assumed threshold at either earnings level.

![Chat calculation of debt B rate limits of 6.0% and 3.5%, with the warning that 2.0 times is an assumed hurdle](https://cdn.sanity.io/images/eybaj6wm/production/66b9c520b97fbb96ce1cdb43fa5390ce2aa6bc5c-950x240.jpg)

*This solves a condition in the model. It does not say a lender offers either rate.*

## What a buyer should verify next

For real research, obtain the debt note, maturity schedule, fixed/floating split, currency, fees and actual covenant wording. Match the earnings period and interest scope. A first-day refinancing assumption cannot simply be carried over to debt repriced halfway through a year.

Interest coverage is not cash available for principal repayment. This test excludes taxes, capital spending, working-capital changes, amortization and refinancing availability. It does not test covenant compliance. **2.0× is our chosen analytical hurdle, not a universal safety boundary.**

More resilient earnings or a smaller repricing exposure would improve this sensitivity; weaker earnings or more expensive funding would worsen it. Neither change alone settles the investment decision.

## When this workflow is useful

Chat fits an investor who wants the assumptions, table and explanation together and is willing to audit them. A calculator is sufficient for a single ratio. A controlled spreadsheet is preferable when you need linked debt schedules, audit trails or many scenarios. We did not benchmark competing tools or validate general AI accuracy.

Use the output to identify the next evidence request—not to replace a financing agreement or credit analysis.
